Bridging the digital divide is not only about teaching people to use a smartphone. It is about making sure a first-time user can bank safely, spot a scam, and claim the benefits they are already entitled to.

Digital literacy that starts where people are
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Goa
Ubantu runs training programmes teaching participants to use smartphones, digital platforms and online services effectively — with a particular focus on the digital financial tools that decide whether someone can participate in the economy at all: mobile banking, UPI, digital wallets and online payment systems.
In 2025 Ubantu collaborated with Skills Root under UNICEF’s ‘Passport to Earning’ (P2E) programme to train over 500 youth and women aged 18 to 30 in financial literacy and digital skills. P2E is a digital learning platform providing free, job-relevant skills training to young people — particularly girls — to prepare them for the future of work.

A television-sized computer lab
With Computer Shiksha · remote schools across India
Through infrastructure and training support from a social organisation named Computer Shiksha, Ubantu has provided computer-science video courses embedded in a TV-like device called MagicBox to schools in remote locations across India.
It is a deliberately low-friction answer to a hard problem: promoting computer literacy among children in under-served communities without requiring a school to first build a computer lab.
Staying safe online
Awareness sessions · for first-time digital users
As more people come online, the risks grow with them. Ubantu conducts awareness sessions on safe internet use, scam protection and data security — aimed especially at first-time digital users, who are the most exposed and the least warned.
Access to social welfare schemes
Delhi and other states
The Foundation helps women and low-income families access government welfare programmes they already qualify for. Through outreach, awareness drives and personalised support, people are guided through the documentation and application process — so that an entitlement on paper becomes money or care in practice.

In Delhi this has meant document camps producing Aadhaar, Voter ID, ABHA, Ayushman and e-Shram cards — the paperwork that stands between a family and a scheme meant for them.
