Policy, panchayats and civic participationPolicy advocacy in social work means influencing decision-makers to create, change or implement laws and policies that advance social justice, equity and the well-being of marginalised populations.
Good governance work means strengthening local self-governance — panchayats and municipal bodies — to encourage participatory planning and decision-making, so that local needs are actually met. It also means encouraging civic engagement, particularly from the people a policy is supposed to serve.
Smart Colony – Smart Ward
Jodhpur and Goa · recognised by both state governmentsThe Smart Colony – Smart Ward Initiative, implemented by the Founder of Ubantu Foundation in Jodhpur and Goa, has received recognition from both state governments.
In April 2016 the Government of Rajasthan recommended it to all municipalities as a success story. In September 2016 the Founder was engaged as a Governance Expert by the Urban Development Department, Government of Goa, under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
This is the work the Foundation grew out of — and the reason its community projects begin with panchayats and residents rather than with a product.
Technical support to national institutions
NCUI and the Ministry of Jal Shakti · 2022–2023Ubantu Foundation has provided technical support to the National Cooperative Union of India and to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India in 2022 and 2023, to foster partnerships with established organisations.
With funding from GIZ India, the Foundation also worked with the Panchayati Raj Department of Uttar Pradesh to document success stories under the MNREGA scheme.
Convergence, from the first village onward
Since 2019Starting with the Foundation’s first project in a village of Goa in 2019, Ubantu has worked closely with local bodies and other stakeholders to facilitate the convergence of resources and expertise in the interest of the people the work is for.
